Daily Spinal Fitness Practice in Kennewick: The Book’s Tracks, Doses and Progression Rule

Eileen Durfee’s book, Spinal Fitness, sets its practice in daily doses: 5 to 10 minutes a day on its basic track and 10 to 20 minutes a day on its high-exposure track, spread through the day in a rhythm the book names Prime, Micro-break, Reset, Decompress. Spinal Fitness evaluations ($150) and 20-minute training sessions ($50) are booked with Eileen at Spinal Fitness Health and Wellness Center, 214 E. Albany Ave, Building E101, Kennewick, WA 99336, and members hold 24/7 access through a door code once their training is complete. Evaluations and training are never part of the free session for new visitors, which runs every Thursday from 2 to 6 PM and rotates among the BioCharger NG, the 7 Wave light panel, Brown’s Gas, PEMF and the hot sauna exercise room.

The book’s 3 tracks

The book uses the posture screen to select a track, set a baseline and track progress. It wrote the 3 tracks for workplace programs, and each dose is stated in minutes per day.

Track A, basic prevention. A daily micro-dose at a workstation or in a brief group session, focused on the cervical micro-dose, a lumbar curve reset and end-of-shift decompression: 5 to 10 minutes total per day.

Track B, high exposure. Daily practice with structured progression: all of Track A plus the Pelvic Tilt with resistance, progressive Sit-Up range and density, and guided Back Trac rolling, 10 to 20 minutes per day.

Track C, recovery. A supervised, low-irritability training protocol that starts with the softest fulcrum and minimal range and puts decompression before any active correction. Training progress on Track C is gated by form and comfort, not by schedule.

Where the doses fall in a day

The book’s Desk Standard places the doses in 4 blocks. Prime: 2 to 4 minutes at the start of the day or first break, a Neck Flexion micro-dose of 6 reps, by hand or on the Neck Shaper, with strain and no pain. Micro-breaks: 10 to 30 seconds every 45 to 60 minutes, with 2 to 3 Neck Flexion reps, standing and a brief walk, and a rib-over-pelvis reset. Reset: 3 to 5 minutes mid-shift, with 6 to 10 Sit-Ups over the PowerCushion at a light density and 1 to 2 minutes of Back Trac rolling. Decompress: 15 to 20 minutes at home at the end of the shift, with 25 Spinal Twist reps followed by rest on the Neck and Back Shaper rolls.

The Warehouse Standard is the one place the book gives a Pelvic Tilt count: 10 reps over the fulcrum inside a 5 to 8 minute pre-shift block that also holds 2 minutes of Back Trac rolling, 6 to 10 Neck Flexion reps and 6 to 10 Sit-Ups at a light density. The book states that all 3 of its standards, Desk, Driver and Warehouse, share the same daily rhythm: Prime, Micro-break, Reset, Decompress.

Neck Flexion past the beginner dose

The beginner dose is 6 repetitions per session, 6 sessions per day, and the dose moves to 10 reps per session when 6 no longer create muscular strain. The book gives 2 further levels. Advanced daily maintenance is 6 to 10 reps every hour throughout the day, only if symptom-free. Athletic progression builds toward 15 to 20 reps per session, multiple sets per day, only after the pattern is clean and tolerance is proven. The book states: “Micro-dosing (6 reps, 6 times per day) produces better results than occasional high-volume sessions.”

For the twist and rolls, the book’s Home Standard, which it recommends for most roles, lists the best times as before bed, after strenuous activity, or after long driving days, with the supported rest capped at 18 to 20 minutes and always after the twist.

The 3 dosing levers

The book defines every dose by 3 dimensions, which it attributes to Dr. John S. Scherger, D.C. Duration is how long a session is sustained: for passive fulcrum work on the rolls or the PowerCushion it begins at a few minutes and builds toward 15 to 20 minutes, and for active exercise it is counted in reps. Intensity is the external load applied and the density and diameter of the fulcrum; a firmer or larger fulcrum raises the demand on the spinal curve at the same body weight. Frequency is how many times per day or per week the dose is applied, and the book calls it “the most powerful lever for building postural adaptation over time.”

For a plateau, the book’s instruction is to check all 3 dimensions before adding reps: often the change is a slightly firmer fulcrum, or splitting one daily session into 2 shorter ones. Its summary for the 3 levers: “The body adapts to the most consistent stimulus, not the most intense one.”

When the dose goes up, and when it stops

The book’s progression rule moves reps, range or density up only when the current dose no longer produces the intended strain, or when form is cleaner with less compensation than in the previous session: “Enthusiasm is not a progression criterion.” The book’s universal training rules apply in every block: strain is acceptable and pain is not, so resistance, range or reps drop immediately if pain appears; every rep is controlled; and neutral alignment comes before effort. Its stop signs are new numbness or tingling, radiating symptoms, weakness, bowel or bladder changes, or sharp escalating pain; any of these pauses training and is escalated to medical evaluation.

Prices and booking

One-on-one training is $50 for a single 20-minute session, $250 for 6 sessions. Group Spinal Fitness sessions are 20 minutes at $35, or 6 sessions for $180. Visits are by appointment; call or text 509-670-9713, evenings and weekends included. The center at 214 E. Albany Ave serves Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, West Richland, Benton City and Walla Walla. Eileen Durfee founded the center, has worked in the health field since 2010, is a Certified Personal Trainer, and built the Spinal Fitness system on the teaching of Dr. John S. Scherger, D.C.
